In Chapter 6, Epstein introduces compound claims a topic that we use daily throughout our lives without even noticing it. Compound claims is a claim with other claims surrounding it. For instance, I will go to the grocery store to buy vegetables for dinner. The first claim in this sentence is “I will go to the grocery store” and the second claim is “buy vegetables for dinner.” Compound claims can go from two claims to several claims. It all depends on how many claims the person wants.
All and all, compound claims are probably used daily throughout our lives. Compound claims allow us to convey several actions in a single statement. A claim that I probably use often is I need to go home to do my homework. A simple sentence like this can have several claims without us evening knowing it. The first claim in this sentence is that I will go home and the second is to do my homework.
